SAIC Motor Corporation Limited has taken a further step in development of intelligent driving technologies by agreeing to cooperate with Mobileye, a leading supplier of intelligent drive solutions.
SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and Intel’s driverless car-technology firm Mobileye are cooperating to develop intelligent driving.
The two sides will draw up plans to jointly develop intelligent driving technologies. SAIC Motor will equip its first-generation intelligent driving central controller with the latest vision chip produced by Mobileye. The cooperation, a key element of SAIC Motor’s development strategy, is expected to promote the growth of self-driving cars in China.
Mobileye, an Israeli driverless car-technology firm purchased by chipmaker Intel in 2017, enjoys a high reputation for mastering the technologies of vision-safety hardware, system-on-chip installation and algorithms. Its products of Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) have a market share of more than 90 percent. SAIC Motor was the first automobile enterprise in China to cooperate with Mobileye. By 2016 it had already launched several vehicle models relying on Mobileye’s ADAS technical solutions, and it plans to introduce intelligent driving cars installed with its first-generation intelligent driving controller in 2018.
With an eye on development trends in the automobile industry and market SAIC Motor insists on innovations in electrification, interconnection, intelligence and sharing to promote industrial transformation and upgrading.
To push forward the development of intelligent driving, SAIC Motor established cooperation relationships with two communications giants, China Mobile Communications Corporation and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, to develop C-V2X, a technology that can promote vehicle safety and automatic driving, in an effort to lay a foundation for the development of smart city and intelligent transportation. It also joined the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), an international alliance made up of vehicle enterprises, chip manufacturers and communication companies. As the only automobile enterprise from Asia in the association, is well positioned to provide solutions for intelligent transportation and travelling as well as smart cities.
It has also gained the license for automatic driving testing from the relevant authority of California, the only automobile enterprise from China with that achievement. It has further signed an agreement with Wuhan KOTEI Informatics Co Ltd to develop a high definition map for intelligent driving. It cooperated with Tongji University to set up the first intelligent driving test base in China, which occupies some 1,370 mu (91.33 hectares) and can simulate hundreds of traffic scenarios.
By the end of 2017, SAIC motor had completed development of two generations of intelligent driving platforms and started to study the intelligent driving technologies applicable to autonomous parking and traffic jams. Its accumulated vehicle test mileage exceeds 500,000 kilometers.
SAIC Motor will continue to accelerate development of intelligent driving technologies to provide differientiated and smart services for customers.
